I don't review places very often, so there really has to be something especially great or horrible about a place to get me to write about them. Silverlake Sun falls into the great category.
I've gone to a few tanning salons in Los Angeles and San Diego, and usually find the staff to be either kind of fake-nice or judgmental. This is totally not the case here! The owner and both employees that I've met are so incredibly nice, genuinely friendly, and make you feel at ease. I had a little issue with my membership due to their move, but the owner took care of it immediately and without any hassle on my end.
Speaking of their move... Their old location was okay - nothing special, and parking was difficult - but still not bad. They just moved next to Gelson's, however, and their new location is so cute! Parking is easy now, too. The beds are effective and always super clean, which I guess is the whole point, but what really makes a place great in my opinion is whether the people and ambiance are inviting and make you feel good about going there. That's definitely the case at Silverlake Sun.

This is a great neighborhood tanning salon. The beds are hot & the bulbs do their job. you could get pretty brown in a week. They also have airbrush tanning which i did once but really I like to nap in the beds. Cost is about average for tans.
The owner is super nice & friendly & always chats it up with me when i come in. it's casual. They have the tv on & someone is usually hanging out on the couch in the waiting area watching reality shows & reading celebrity smut magazines. like i said, it's a local, neighborhood salon, not a fancy schmancy corporate salon & i prefer it this way.
The first time i signed up the owner charged me twice accidentally. she fixed the situation promptly AND gave me a bunch of free tans for the fuck up. she is a fantastic business owner. If you support small business then this is the tanning salon you should go to. silverlake sun treats you like a friend, not like another dollar to be made & i really appreciate that. there is something to be said for good business practice.
They also loan you goggles if you need them & there is a water cooler when you walk out. Nice. |

I am going to be visiting a few Caribbean and Latin American countries in a few weeks and wanted to blend in with the locals. Silverlake Sun happened to be the closest tanning salon to me that was reviewed on Yelp
I had never been in need of a tan in my life but after a few years working for Wall Street and I looked like a ghost - I went into Wall Street looking like a Poncho Villa and left as Casper the Friendly Ghost (except not so friendly).
Silverlake Sun helped remedy my problem with ease and with little pain to my wallet. Like everything else in my life, I left this to the last minute and only had two weeks to turn golden brown - no problem for Silverlake Sun.
The workers here were very friendly and set me up with a program to get me where I need to be. They have tons of beds and rooms and are always willing to dish out advice.
The rooms were clean (I really don't need to catch anymore diseases) and they had beds of varying intensities.
Pricing: 5 sessions for $40. |

| I have tanned here for over ten years and I can't wait to see the new location. Congratulations on being able to grow during these uncertain times. Wishing you all much success in the new local. See you soon. |

I miss going to get my fake bake from this place. I used to live within walking distance to this place which was so convenient.
I know it sounds funny - missing a tanning salon, but they have 12 or 13 different rooms / beds. They do the mistic tan, they have the stand up sun capsule, and every level of intesity bed that you could want to use. They also sell clothing from a local boutique, which some of it is pretty cute. It's extremely clean, and the people that work there are very friendly.
The only downer about this place is the parking. It is located in an extremely small strip mall / corner shop type setup which has a very minimal amount of parking spots. So if you weren't as lucky as me to live within walking distance, you may have to struggle to park.
Parking is a little tricky, but if you go at odd hours (later in the evening) you are usually fine. Good prices, nice staff, clean establishment. They have a variety of beds from standard (20 or 15 minutes) to more pricey high-powered ones. You can buy one session, 5 sessions, 10 sessions, or a month...lots of options! It is defiantly my go-to place. |
